Rangers: Burke awaits scan results
Rangers winger Chris Burke will find out how long he can expect to be out of action after a scan on his damaged ankle this afternoon.
The Ibrox winger was forced out of last night’s friendly against Zenit St Petersburg by a tackle from team-mate Fernando Ricksen, who is on loan at the Russian club.
The 22-year-old sustained an injury to the same ankle during the pre-season tour of South Africa and the latest setback comes just days after an acclaimed first start of the season against Hearts at the weekend.
However, he is hoping for a quicker recovery this time around.
“I’ve got a scan this afternoon and I’ll know more when that happens,” he said. "Hopefully it’s not as bad as what I first thought. There’s less pain than there was in South Africa so I’ll just have to wait and see. It’s the same sort of thing so I hope there’s not any more damage than there was in South Africa.”
Even so, he has ruled himself out of Sundays Bank of Scotland Premier League match at Kilmarnock.
“I think it’s safe to say that I won’t be involved in the game against Kilmarnock,” he added. "I’ll take it day by day. I can’t say much more until I know what the real problem is after the scan.”
Burke did not speak to Ricksen after the match but believes the challenge - just after he came on as a substitute – was not intentional.
“There were no words spoken after that,” he told Rangers World. “I’m sure he didn’t intend it – well I hope he didn’t anyway.
“Hopefully I can just get back as quickly as I can. I think Fernando has kicked the bottom of my foot and it has twisted into the ground and caught. It’s just unfortunate that it happened straight away but these things happen in football and I just have to be positive and look forward.”
