George slams the US justice system
Singer Boy George has blasted the American judicial system as "hideous" after becoming so dehydrated in a prison cell he was forced to drink his own urine.
The star, real name George O'Dowd, was arrested last year for falsely reporting a burglary at his Manhattan apartment and admits the ordeal was one of the most harrowing experiences of his life.
He says: "All my life I've thought: 'I never want to get in trouble with the law in America.' But everything happens for a reason, I suppose - I just haven't worked out what it is yet. I think everyone knows what happened that night. Some parts were exaggerated, some were underplayed.
"But when I was arrested the police were really hideous to me. I just couldn't understand why they would be so bad - they wouldn't even give you water so I had to drink my own urine in the cells. Seriously. I thought: 'What have I done to deserve this? What happened to beyond reasonable doubt?'"
The singer was sentenced to five days working for New York's Department Of Sanitation, which he completed last week.
