New deal for Camara
Henri Camara has signed a new three-year deal with Wigan.
The Senegal striker has pledged his future to the club, after agreeing a deal that now takes him up to 2009.
Camara, the club’s former record buy at £3.1m (€4.6m) last summer, has effectively agreed a one-year extension as his previous deal was due to expire in 2008.
It is understood Camara had a clause in that contract allowing him to renegotiate if Wigan remained in the Premiership at the end of their first season.
The 29-year-old played his part in the Latics’ remarkable 10th-placed finish by scoring 12 goals in 30 league appearances.
Camara has now been rewarded by quickly agreeing improved terms over the course of the new contract, ending speculation about a potential move away from the JJB Stadium.
A number of clubs had been linked with the former Wolves, Southampton and Celtic forward, notably Portsmouth and Newcastle.
But after an unhappy time at Molineux, and following loan spells at St Mary’s and Parkhead, it is clear Camara is now settled in the north west.
The club, meanwhile, are still waiting to hear from FIFA with regard the transfer of defender Andy Webster from Hearts, with football’s world governing body deciding on the level of compensation.
