Andriy Shevchenko claimed his first Barclays Premiership goal as Chelsea took the lead against the run of play at Middlesbrough.
The £30m (€44m) striker converted a 16th-minute Wayne Bridge cross, and Salomon Kalou could have made it 2-0 after Boro faded following a promising start.
