Els effort wins shot of the month
23/08/2006 - 10:51:42Ernie Els’ approach to the 14th hole during the final round of the British Open at Hoylake has been voted RBS Shot of the Month for July.
The 36-year-old South African, trying to close the gap on eventual winner Tiger Woods, hit a five-iron to four feet for a birdie three at the hardest hole of the week.
He wins a trophy and a £1,000 cheque to donate to a charity of his choice.
Sergio Garcia was runner-up after he holed a nine iron for an eagle two at the second in the third round of the Open with Robert Karlsson third for pitching in for birdie at the seventh hole on the penultimate day of the Deutsche Bank Players’ Championship of Europe in Germany, which he went on to win.
