Talks set to continue in dispute over Bantry power lines
The mediator in a dispute over power lines in Bantry, Co Cork, has said he is hopeful further discussions could lead to an amicable resolution.
Twenty-six local farmers are opposed to the erection of power lines over their land to connect a wind farm to the national grid.
They want the cables laid underground instead and have offered to dig the trenches themselves.
The High Court has already granted an injunction ordering them not to interfere with the work.
Yesterday, the farmers and the developers behind the wind farm project entered talks with ICSA president Malcolm Thompson, who is mediating efforts to resolve the stand-off.
"In any dispute, there needs to be negotiation and discussion on both sides," Mr Thompson said today.
"I believe the groundwork has been established for that to take place. The door is still open and we can continue and hopefully come to a resolution."
