Many people ignoring digestive health problems

Many Irish people are ignoring their digestive health, according to a survey conducted to mark the launch of Gut Week this week.

The survey found that 37% of Irish people had suffered a digestive problem in the past 12 months and 10% had missed work as a result of the problem.

However, 33% of respondents said they believed on-going gut problems did not indicate that anything was seriously wrong with their digestive system.

Experts say a healthy diet is important to maintaining digestive health and preventing more serious problems like bowel cancer, the second most common form of cancer in Ireland.
