Israeli troops shoot two Hezbollah fighters

21/08/2006 - 18:50:50
Israeli troops today shot two Hezbollah guerrillas during a clash in southern Lebanon, the army said.

It said its soldiers had opened fire after three guerrillas approached in a “threatening manner”.

Two had been hit. There was no word on the condition of the men.

The clash underscored the fragility of a week-old truce that ended 34 days of fighting.

Israel is keeping troops in southern Lebanon until Lebanese troops and UN peacekeepers take up positions under the UN-brokered truce agreement.
