Anelka claims Bolton deal is done

Fenerbahce striker Nicolas Anelka expects to sign a four-year deal with Premiership side Bolton “at the start of this week”.

According to reports in France, the two clubs have agreed a fee in the region of £8.15m (€12m) for the transfer of the Frenchman.

Anelka is keen to secure a return to England after new Fenerbahce coach Zico made it clear the 27-year-old striker was not part of his plans ahead of the new season.

“My wish is to return to the Premiership and it’s about to materialise,” said Anelka in L’Equipe.

“I have agreed with Bolton the terms and conditions of a four-year contract.

“My desire to join this club is very strong and I hope everything will be sealed at the start of this week.”

Anelka, who has played 31 times for France but did not receive a call-up for this summer’s World Cup, has previously had spells with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City. He also had stints at Paris St Germain and Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, midfielder Wanderers Gary Speed has signed a new two-year deal to remain at the Reebok Stadium until the summer of 2008.

The 36-year-old former Wales midfielder, who joined Bolton from Newcastle in 2004, has made over 70 appearances and scored five goals for the club.

Bolton boss Sam Allardyce said: “Gary’s top-flight experience is second to none and is vital to this football club.

“He’s been with us for two seasons and during that time he has been exceptional for us.”
