Galient fine after scare
Michael Jarvis has reported that his three-year-old colt Galient appears to have suffered no ill-effects after banging his head in the starting stalls at Newbury on Saturday.
The son of Galileo was slowly into stride in the Geoffrey Freer Stakes having made contact with the stalls when fly-jumping as the gates opened.
He soon recovered to lead his four rivals throughout the early stages but weakened inside the final quarter-mile to finish last in the Group Three contest.
Jarvis believes the incident to have been a fairly minor one however and gives his charge a clean bill of health.
“Galient banged his head on leaving the stalls yesterday but I don’t think it was too much of a problem really – he seems alright now anyway,” he said.
Galient had been entered for next week’s Brilliant Media Melrose Stakes at York but his Newmarket handler has ruled out a trip to the Knavesmire following yesterday’s run.
“We entered him in the Melrose but he doesn’t run there,” he added.“He was only entered in that as a precaution in case he didn’t run on Saturday.”
