FG calls for more services for people with eating disorders

Calls are being made for the Minister for Health to provide more services for people with eating disorders.

At present, there are only 20 beds in the country that are dedicated to child psychiatry.

Around 2% of girls are affected by anorexia and a further 3-5% are bulimic.

Fine Gael wants to see a dedicated system established to deal with eating disorders.

Deputy Health spokesman Dan Neville said this area needs specialised psychiatric services, and that sufferers should not to be treated in general psychiatric wards.
