Pinochet stripped of immunity from prosecution

Chile's Supreme Court has stripped General Augusto Pinochet of immunity from prosecution, clearing him to be tried on corruption charges for his once-secret multi-million dollar overseas bank accounts.

The decision adds to Pinochet's legal problems, which include indictments for human rights abuses and tax evasion using false passports to open bank accounts during his dictatorship from 1973 to 1990.

The judge said he found evidence that the 90-year-old former ruler used $2m (€1.6m) in government funds to benefit himself and his family.
