Theo Walcott came off the bench to help Arsenal secure a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa in the opening Barclays Premiership match at the Emirates Stadium.
Olof Mellberg headed Villa in front early in the second half, and Martin O’Neill’s men defended bravely.
However, sustained pressure finally told with six minutes left when Gilberto netted at the far post following more good work from the teenager on his debut.
