Prince reigns at Newbury

19/08/2006 - 14:22:09
Prince Forever earned a quote of 33-1 from Paddy Power, Coral and the sponsors for the Stan James 2000 Guineas after he made a winning debut in the opening race at Newbury.

On the strength of encouraging reports from the Newmarket gallops, the Michael Jarvis-trained colt was sent off a well-fancied 3-1 shot for the first division of the Sportsman Newspaper EBF Maiden Stakes.

The information proved spot on as Prince Forever broke smartly and after disputing the lead, he drew clear from the two-pole to beat Thabaat in good style by a length and a quarter.

“He’s always been pretty high in the pecking order,” Jarvis said. “He’s always been very professional, quick out of the stalls and into his racing. He’s a promising horse.

“He’s got some nice entries but the owner has got Strategic Prince as well and I think I would like to keep them apart for the time being.”
