Williams recovering in rehab after relapse

17/08/2006 - 10:39:22
Comedian and Hollywood actor Robin Williams reportedly decided to check himself into a rehabilitation facility after more than 20 years of sobriety in a bid to save his marriage to wife Marsha.

The Oscar winner felt under extreme pressured to keep up his funny persona in the face of diversity, and began to seek solace with alcohol - to the determent of his 17-year union.

A source tells American publication US Weekly: "In public, he had to be 'on' all the time. When he was drinking alone it was the only time he didn't have to do that."

William's drinking took a toll on the marriage, according to the source who adds: "Of course (the marriage) suffered, but Marsha is the one who encouraged him to get help."

The 55-year-old star checked himself into Newberg, Oregon's Hazeldon Springbrook clinic in July.
