Toronto hosts world's largest ever Aids conference
14/08/2006 - 10:45:26The Canadian city of Toronto is hosting the world's largest ever conference on Aids this week, with some 24,000 people due to attend.
The Irish Government is represented at the gathering by the Irish Aid section of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
It has also sponsored 50 people from developing countries, some of them living with HIV, to attend the conference.
Speaking at the opening of the meeting yesterday, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who has given millions of dollars to fighting the disease, said discovering preventative tools and distributing them to those most at risk was key to tackling Aids.
