Hospitals to be get rewards for eliminating A&E crisis

14/08/2006 - 08:03:19
Hospitals are reportedly set to be offered extra consultants as a reward for eliminating accident and emergency overcrowding.

Reports this morning say up to 100 additional consultants will be made available to hospitals that eliminate the situation whereby patients are frequently forced to wait on trolleys in A&E units.

They will have to ensure that no A&E patient is waiting more than 24 hours for a bed and that three quarters of patients are waiting no longer than six hours.

The offer is part of a new incentive scheme due to be announced by the Health Service Executive this week.
