I sounded like a choirboy, says Elton
Pop legend Elton John's vocal range became more limited after he underwent throat surgery in 1987, but he insists he loves his voice more than ever.
The flamboyant star admits the operation cost him his ability to hit the high notes he was famed for in his early years.
But the star is thrilled with the change, because he claims he sounded like a "choirboy" before the surgery.
"I've lost a bit," he said. "I've lost my falsetto range, which is because I had an operation on my voice.
"But when critics say: 'He can't hit the high notes in Rocket Man' - it's the same key as I've always sung it but the falsetto has gone.
"The operation lowered the timbre of my voice, and I'm grateful for that now because I have much more range.
"When you listen to the old songs, I sound like a choirboy."
