10/08/2006 - 15:04:13
John Terry was today named the new captain of England.

The 25-year-old Chelsea centre-half has succeeded David Beckham as England’s skipper following the Real Madrid star’s decision to relinquish the armband following this summer’s World Cup in Germany.

Terry will begin his reign as captain in Steve McClaren’s first match in charge of the national team, a friendly against Greece at Old Trafford next Wednesday.
