Cullen: 'No increased security risk at Irish airports'
10/08/2006 - 13:08:09Minister for Transport Martin Cullen has said there is no increased security risk at Irish airports following the anti-terrorism operation being conducted by the British police today.
At least 25 people have been detained in connection with an alleged plot to bomb several flights between Britain and the United States.
Mr Cullen said today that the Department of Transport and the Gardai were continuing to monitor the situation.
However, he said the authorities in the UK were not requiring any additional security measures at Irish airports.
The minister said measures already in place under European law include the screening of all baggage and passengers and the banning of an extensive list of potentially dangerous items.
