323 motorists arrested for drink-driving last weekend
09/08/2006 - 07:40:27Three motorists were arrested for drink-driving every hour during the bank holiday weekend, according to figures released by Gardaí last night.
A total of 323 motorists was detained for the offence between Friday and Monday, 116 of them as a result of random breath tests.
Almost 12,500 random tests were carried out at 1,342 checkpoints throughout the country.
Gardaí say the blitz will continue every weekend in the near future until motorists get the message that they cannot get away with drink-driving.
