Communications company Cable & Wireless has won a three-year, €500,000 contract with media group Thomas Crosbie Holdings (TCH) to provide a communications infrastructure for two of its flagship titles, the Irish Examiner and the Evening Echo.

The two newspaper operations are set to relocate to new offices in Cork city's Lapp's Quay. Cable & Wireless will provide communications services at the new offices, including integrated voice, data and wireless systems.

The 350 Irish Examiner and Evening Echo employees will be able to access unified messaging and hot-desking functionality, enabling them to access their voicemails, email and the corporate network from any location.

TCH chief technology officer Ruairi Roddy said: “This move (will be) a seamless one for our employees and invisible to our readers and advertisers…It will also simplify network management and reduce our total cost of ownership."

Over time, TCH also plans to roll out voice over IP and advanced call centre functionality to all its offices across Ireland.

TCH owns 18 newspapers. Its electronic media division Thomas Crosbie Media comprises breakingnews.ie, GolfOnline.ie, rugby.ie, motornet.ie, recruitireland.com and a content syndication business.
