Parents on alert after second baby abduction attempt
Parents in the North were today warned by police to be on alert after another suspected baby abduction attempt.
Detectives are investigating a report of a couple asking after children in Omagh, Co Tyrone, last night.
It follows last week’s botched attempt by a bogus health worker to snatch a five-week old baby in Cookstown, just 25 miles away.
Police said a couple in a green or champagne-coloured car were reported to be making enquiries about children in the Drumquin Road area of Omagh.
Last Wednesday, July 26, a woman claiming to be a health worker attempted to kidnap a baby boy, one of twins, after calling at a house in the Westland Road South area of Cookstown.
In a fresh appeal for information, police said it is now thought the silver-coloured Volkswagen Golf used by the couple in that incident had a yellow pull-down sun visor on one of the driver-side car windows.
“While there is currently no evidence to suggest this is connected to the Cookstown incident, police are advising parents to be vigilant and always check the identification of people who call to the door,” a PSNI spokesman said.
