Zenden: Nobody wants to go to Israel
04/08/2006 - 17:40:29Bolo Zenden insists Liverpool have no wish to play their Champions League qualifier against Maccabi Haifa in Israel.
UEFA will reveal on Monday where the second-leg tie will be played with a suggestion it could be in Ukraine.
Anfield midfielder Zenden told the Liverpool Echo: “It’s clear we don’t want to go to Israel. Obviously nobody wants to go.
“I was at Chelsea a few years ago when there was some controversy over a European game and at that time I decided I would go to Tel Aviv. Several other players decided not to go.
“That was a long time ago, but the situation is much different this time.
“At that time the issue was the build-up to the Gulf War and whether something might happen in Israel, whereas now it’s a war directly impacting on the country.”
