Barham falls away

04/08/2006 - 09:25:34
No practice round and borrowed clubs were perhaps catching up with England’s Benn Barham in the second round of the EnterCard Scandinavian Masters today.

Barham’s clubs failed to arrive following a flight from London on Tuesday and meant he was unable to even practice at Barseback before the start of the event.

That initially looked like being a blessing in disguise after a round of 67, five under par, gave Barham a share of the overnight lead alongside Scotland’s Marc Warren and Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts.

But the 30-year-old from Kent was struggling to reproduce that form this morning as he slipped three shots off the lead now held by Sweden’s Fredrik Jacobson.

Starting from the 10th, Barham went to the turn in 37 with bogeys on the 15th and 18th and a solitary birdie on the 17th.

Playing partner Colsaerts was out in 34 after four birdies and two bogeys to lie seven under, one behind Jacobson who was finally making Sweden’s overwhelming numerical superiority count.

A total of 48 Swedish players were among the 159-strong field but Jacobson was the first to make a real impact on the leaderboard.

Starting from the 10th he picked up birdies at five of his first seven holes to move into the lead on eight under par.
