Inmate stabbed at Mountjoy Prison
04/08/2006 - 08:11:07Mountjoy Prison in Dublin is attracting more bad publicity today following the stabbing of an inmate in the prison yard.
The inmate was stabbed in the arm and back while exercising in the yard yesterday afternoon.
He was taken to the nearby Mater Hospital, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Earlier this week, a 21-year-old Tallaght man was beaten to death in a protective-custody cell at the prison just hours after requesting a move from the main landing due to fears of attack.
A Nigerian man recently jailed for murdering his wife was also beaten and stabbed in the jail last week.
The attacks have raised serious concerns about the safety of inmates at Mountjoy, where over-crowding and a lack of modern facilities have been long-running problems.
