Inmate in serious condition after latest Mountjoy stabbing
Another inmate has been stabbed at Mountjoy Prison in Dublin today, the fourth serious assault at the jail in just over a week.
The latest victim, a man in his 20s, is understood to have been stabbed sometime around 1pm and is in a serious condition at the nearby Mater Hospital.
Earlier this week, a 21-year-old Tallaght man was beaten to death in a protective-custody cell at the prison just hours after requesting a move from the main landing due to fears of attack.
A Nigerian man recently jailed for murdering his wife was also beaten and stabbed in the jail last week, while another inmate was stabbed in the arm and back while exercising in the prison yard yesterday afternoon.
The attacks have raised serious concerns about the safety of inmates at Mountjoy, where over-crowding and a lack of modern facilities have been long-running problems.
