SIPTU to discuss Labour Court proposals on Aer Lingus

03/08/2006 - 07:36:27
SIPTU shop stewards at Aer Lingus are due to meet today to discuss Labour Court recommendations aimed at resolving their unease about the privatisation of the airline.

SIPTU workers have already voted in favour of all-out strike unless their concerns about pay, conditions and pensions are addressed ahead of the sell-off.

The Labour Court is believed to have recommended that the workers receive a 4% pay increase over and above the national pay agreement, as well as increased pension contributions.

This would come on top of lump sum payments of around €4,000 that Aer Lingus has already offered to each worker.

SIPTU's shop stewards are expected to decide today whether to put the proposals to a ballot of workers or seek further clarification.

The airline, meanwhile, is expected to accept the recommendations so it can press ahead with the sell-off of shares next month.
