Minister outlines plans to improve services for disabled people
The Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural resources has outlined plans to improve services for disabled people who deal with his Department.
They include more radio and TV programmes from the commercial broadcasting sector, the creation of a new emergency call answering service and the upgrading of access to post offices around the country.
A dedicated consumer management service will also be set up to deal with queries in the energy regulation sector.
Minister Noel Dempsey said the new service will greatly assist disabled people who have difficulty dealing with energy bills and related issues.
“They're talking in terms of putting in place ease of access for people with disabilities”, the Minister said today.
“Perhaps people that are visually impaired, that their billing system is open and transparent that its given to them in a manner that they can access.”
Minister Dempsey suggested that might be by means of a telephone call rather than a bill.
