ECB raises interest rates again

03/08/2006 - 13:01:44
The European Central Bank has announced another increase in interest rates following its regular monthly meeting in Frankfurt today.

The bank has raised its main lending rate by a quarter of one per cent, the fourth rise in the space of just nine months.

This move will add around €30 to the average monthly mortgage repayment for Irish homeowners.

Two further increases are also expected before the end of this year in order to tackle growing inflation across the eurozone.
