Cork stick with winning formula

02/08/2006 - 09:15:07
Cork manager John Allen has named an unchanged team for Sunday's All-Ireland SHC semi-final against Munster rivals Waterford (Croke Park, throw-in 4pm).

Allen has stuck with the side that beat Limerick 0-19 to 0-18 in last month's quarter-final.

That means Neil Ronan, who made his first championship start since 2002 against Limerick, keeps his place at left half-forward. The 26-year-old Ballyhea ace hit over three points from play in the win.

Allen's selection includes 14 of the side that beat Waterford in last year's quarter-finals, with the only exception being Ronan, who replaces Sarsfields clubman Kieran Murphy.

Cork are unbeaten in 12 championship games since Waterford got the better of them in the 2004 Munster final. The current Liam McCarthy Cup holders are bidding to reach their fourth consecutive All-Ireland final.

Sunday will mark the 54th championship meeting between the counties, with the score standing at 40-10 in the Rebels' favour with three draws.

CORK (SHC v Waterford) - D Óg Cusack; P Mulcahy (capt), D O'Sullivan, B Murphy; J Gardiner, R Curran, S Óg Ó hAilpín; T Kenny, J O'Connor; T McCarthy, N McCarthy, N Ronan; B O'Connor, B Corcoran, J Deane.
