Cork City facing uphill climb against Red Star Belgrade

02/08/2006 - 09:16:20
Cork City are back in action in the Champions League tonight, but face an uphill climb if they are to progress in the competition.

The Leesiders take a 1-0 deficit into the away leg of their qualifier against Red Star Belgrade.

They will also find out this afternoon if they face a possible meeting with Italian giants AC Milan should they reach the final round of the qualifiers.

The Serie A club were initially barred from the competition as a result of the Italian match-fixing scandal, but the Italian Football Federation reduced the punishment on appeal and put them forward for inclusion in the draw for the third qualifying round.

UEFA, however, have the final say on the whether to approve the move and a decision on the case is due later today.
