Whitefish vessels urged to avail of decommissioning grants
02/08/2006 - 14:23:42The Department of the Marine is urging more vessels in the whitefish fleet to avail of decommissioning opportunities.
The Government launched a plan last October to reduce the fleet by 25% in order to ensure the economic viability of the remaining vessels.
Thirty vessels have been taken out of service so far, but the department says €29m in grant aid is still available for other fishermen who want to take the opportunity.
