Irish team starts European Championships quest
31/07/2006 - 10:25:06Ireland’s best swimmers begin their quest for European glory today with the start of the European Swimming Championships, which are being held in Budapest, Hungary.
The seven-strong Irish team consists of four swimmers who have already competed in this year’s Commonwealth Games in Sydney. Melanie Nocher, Andrew Bree, Jonathan Nixon and Julie Douglas all swam in Sydney adding vital big meet experience to the team.
Dubliner Barry Murphy is also a member of the team and is fresh from breaking two Irish Senior Records at the Irish National Short Course Championships in Lisburn over the weekend.
The squad is completed by Galway native, Ciara Farrell and Bangor swimmer, Claire Dawson. The Championships begin today and will run until Sunday August 6.
