Carlos: I'm staying at Real
Roberto Carlos has pledged his future to Real Madrid following talks with the club’s new coach Fabio Capello.
The Brazil left-back has been a target of both English champions Chelsea and Turkish side Fenerbahce this summer after hinting at the end of last season that he could be ready to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.
After holding encouraging talks with Capello however, the 33-year-old confirmed he wants to stay in Madrid until the summer of 2008.
The player has a year left on his contract at the club, with an option of another 12 months depending on the number of appearances he makes this season.
“Capello has given me new enthusiasm and I am much happier,” said Carlos.
“I want to stay at the club. I am saying this loud and clear. I want to secure the second year of my deal so I can carry on playing in the team until 2008. But we will have to see what happens.”
