Explosion kills policeman in Chechnya
28/07/2006 - 15:22:29One police officer was killed in an explosion in Chechnya, officials said today, while a fatal shooting in a nearby province in southern Russia sparked fears of renewed ethnic strife.
A self-made explosive device blew up in Chechnya’s southern Vedeno district yesterday, killing one policeman and seriously injuring another, the republic’s Interior Ministry said.
Meanwhile, a soldier was wounded in a shootout with suspected rebels in the central Kurchaloy district.
One suspected militant was killed and another was captured during the operation, the ministry said.
