O2 Ireland increases subscribers 4.5%

O2 Ireland signed up 6,000 new customers in the three-month period from April 1, the company said today.

O2's customer base at the end of June 2006 was 1.599 million, up from 1.593 million in Q1, and a 4.5% increase on the same period last year.

Service revenue grew by 3.3% year-on-year. Average monthly minutes of use in the quarter increased to 237, up from 220 in Q1, representing growth of 8%.

Monthly average ARPU for pre-pay customers remained static at €29 when compared with the last quarter and with the same period in 2005. Monthly average ARPU for post-pay customers was €88, up slightly from €87 last quarter, but down from €92 for the same period in 2005.

Monthly average blended ARPU remained almost static at €46 for the quarter, compared with €45 for Q1, and €46 for the same period last year.

Paul Whelan, chief financial officer at O2 Ireland said: "The O2 Ireland business continues to deliver a strong performance…which is reflected in our growing customer base and service revenues. In a fiercely competitive market, we are very pleased that our customer base continues to expand, with almost 13,000 post-pay customers added in the last quarter alone."
