Harvest ripe for Sandown test
Trainer Rod Millman hopes Harvest Joy can improve on her maiden success by winning the Listed William Hill Gods of Poker Stakes at Sandown on Thursday.
The filly, by Daggers Drawn, has grown in stature on each of her previous starts this season and broke her duck with a ready success over six furlongs at Nottingham last time out – despite slipping in the stalls at the start.
Millman is now keeping his fingers crossed for further prize money in the extended seven-furlong heat, won last year by subsequent French Oaks heroine Confidential Lady.
He said: “She will need to improve a bit to win a Listed race but she’s a progressive sort and it’s always a good thing to get some black type.
“She will be stepping up in trip which should suit her.”
The Devon-based trainer also confirmed stable star Sergeant Cecil to be on course for a crack at the Goodwood Cup next week.
Life has not been easy for the seven-year-old since stepping u from handicaps to Pattern races this year – despite finishing a staying-on second to Land‘n Stars in a tactical affair at Sandown last time out.
“He’s very well and it’s all systems go for Goodwood,” added Millman.
