Labour Court cases increase for fifth year running
26/07/2006 - 07:41:56The Labour Court has reported a huge increase in the number of cases coming before it in recent years.
In its latest annual report, the court says its caseload was up 64% since 2000, having risen for the fifth consecutive year in 2005.
Two areas have contributed significantly to the increase.
Complaints by trade unions and employers about breaches of registered agreements were up 340% over the five-year period, while cases where employers refuse to engage in collective bargaining are also taking up much of the court's time.
