Increase in 'top up' maintenance grant for students
25/07/2006 - 17:47:01The Department of Education has announced a 22.5% increase in the 'top up' maintenance grant for 12,500 students.
Those qualifying for the grant will now receive €5,970 in assistance during the 2006/07 academic year. The annual income threshold to qualify for the top-up grant is also being increased by 7.2% to €16,748.
Minister for Education Mary Hanafin said it was important for students to access their respective grants as quickly as possible.
“The important thing is that they would now contact their local VEC, their local County Council, get the forms, and fill them in accurately with all of the information that is needed to ensure that they can get their grant,” she said.
“There will be no delay and the money will be paid in the first few weeks of their academic campaign.”
