Construction firms urged to do more to boost recycling
25/07/2006 - 13:47:01The Government is calling on construction and demolition firms to do more to reuse and recycle the waste they generate.
At present, such firms reuse more than 80% of the soil and stones they generate, but they still put 11 million tonnes of waste into landfills every year.
Minister for the Environment Dick Roche has now issued guidelines to help them improve their recycling rate.
He says companies can make major savings this way as it costs just six cents to recycle a block, compared to €4 to put it into landfill.
