HRC panel to be replaced
24/07/2006 - 13:50:20The Irish Human Rights Commission is undertaking its first reshuffle since being set up in 2001.
The 14 members of the body are about to retire to be replaced by a new panel of judges, lawyers and academics.
The commission was set up as part of the Good Friday Agreement to ensure that Ireland complies with human rights standards.
Its president, Dr Maurice Manning, said that while awareness of human rights has been raised, a lot of work remains to be done in the coming years.
