Almost half of Irish people are credit union members

Almost half of Irish people are members of a credit union, according to the representative body for the sector.

The Irish League of Credit Unions says its branches have a savings base of €14bn, with assets growing by 15% annually.

Announcing the figures today, the body said its high membership numbers show that confidence in credit unions is high among the general public.
