Last of Irish evacuees due home from Beirut this afternoon
22/07/2006 - 15:25:33Seventeen more Irish evacuees from Beirut are arriving in Dublin this afternoon.
They were bussed from the Lebanese capital to Syria yesterday, and are flying home from there through London.
The group spent last night in Damascus before catching a flight to London this morning. They will arrive into Dublin on two separate Aer Lingus flights.
This is the last organised evacuation by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Families of members of the Defence forces flew in yesterday.
The Department says the only Irish left in Beirut either have dual Lebanese nationality, or are serving with the UN.
