Half-hour delay for British Open

The start of the 135th British Open championship was delayed by 30 minutes this morning at Hoylake.

After heavy rain overnight, the lingering threat of further thunderstorms in the area forced organisers to put back the start of play to 7am.

Sweden’s Peter Hedblom had been due to hit the first shot at 6.30am alongside Australian Steve Elkington and American Jerry Kelly.
