Taoiseach escapes uninjured from rush hour crash

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern was today involved in a minor road traffic accident.

Gardaí said the collision occurred on the North Circular Road in north Dublin some time between 5pm and 6pm.

Mr Ahern was a passenger in his top of the range Mercedes S-Class state car which was being driven by his chauffeur.

No-one was injured during the accident in the heavy rush hour traffic in the capital.

Th Taoiseach took possession of the S350 car, which normally retails for around €123,000, in April of this year.

The Government Service Agency purchased two, for both Mr Ahern and President Mary McAleese.

According to one survey it is the vehicle of choice for over 90% of top political leaders around the world.
