Titanic link due in Belfast today after delay

18/07/2006 - 10:31:44
Belfast will officially welcome home one of the last links to the Titanic today following a 24-hour delay due to a sudden death at the shipyard where both vessels were built.

The SS Nomadic, which was used to ferry passengers to the ill-fated Titanic, was due to be towed up the River Lagan yesterday for a homecoming ceremony.

However, the event had to be postponed after a worker at the Harland and Wolff shipyard died suddenly.

The Nomadic has been bought by the British government after being used as a floating restaurant on the River Seine in Paris in recent years.

A trust fund has been set up to pay the cost of restoring the ship.
