Post mortem confirms Cobh woman was strangled

Gardaí in Co Cork have launched a murder inquiry following confirmation that the young woman found dead in Cobh on Sunday night had suffered a violent death.

The body of 19-year-old Sheola Keaney was discovered in undergrowth near Pirates Rugby Club by gardaí who had been investigating her disappearance three days earlier.

A post mortem examination has confirmed that she was strangled.

Gardaí say they are keeping an open mind about her killing and will be investigating “all avenues” over the coming days.
