Hain planning major restructuring of North’s govt depts
18/07/2006 - 11:05:13Northern Secretary Peter Hain has announced plans for a major reform of devolved government departments in the North.
In a speech today reviewing the work of his direct-rule ministers at Stormont, Mr Hain questioned whether 11 departments were needed.
He said he was giving local politicians until the power-sharing deadline of November 24 to agree a restructuring programme.
If they failed to do so, he said, the British government would press ahead with implementing its own reforms.
