€120m to be spent on plugging water leaks in Dublin

18/07/2006 - 07:52:26
Dublin City Council has announced plans to spend almost €120m in an effort to reduce the level of leaks from the city's water system.

The money will be spent replacing some of the cast iron pipes that make up the water mains, many of which are more than 100 years old.

The council estimates that around 28% of Dublin's water leaks out of these pipes before the supply ever reaches taps.

It hopes the €120m upgrade will reduce this to 20%.
